1959 Acc. Codes

Hi Guys,
Just picked up a '59 Impala Sport Coupe today. 283 with Power Glide, Power Steering and Power Brakes. White on Gray. Has been sitting in a garage for 30 years. It's all present but needs a total restoration.

I'm curious about 2 codes listed on the trim tag: TRIM 809
I know it's Gray but I've also seen an 810 listed for Gray interior. What is the difference?

Also under Accessory Codes: I P

Thanks for your input,
Greg

That sounds like a reasonable assumption but the car shows no evidence of ever having had a padded dash.

Codes

My research shows the following: as Warren stated all decoding sites show IP as padded dash. 809 is a gray interior for coupes, 810 is a gray interior for convertibles.

Is the front speaker grille raised up a bit above the metal dash or is it flush with the dash?

Verne,
The speaker cover is currently removed. That was how it was when I purchased the car. I expected there would be evidence of a padded dash from bolt/screw holes to secure it; however further research seems to suggest these padded additions were only affixed with some type of adhesive. I assume the padded cover was removed years ago, probably due to breakdown/warpage from the California sun. This would leave no particular trace of the original padded cover.
Best,
Greg
