What state was the car purchased in and was it registered when you bought it?

There's also a slim chance of a VIN typographical error, but I agree with Ape on the more logical explanation.

The vin # has a "C" in it... I was told that it is a California car and built in South Gate California in Los Angeles. The car was not registered when I purchased it. The guy that I bought it from had the Pink Slip from 1983. The guy he bought it from has passed since.

sounds like ya gotta take it in. What can it hurt? You may just have a little extra paperwork or leg-work to do to get it registered.

No big deal in Texas. They just want to see the vin# to insure it is correct. Take it to them.

LOL, I'm in California. Wish I could... although it sounds like I will have to take it in to them (DMV) I'm also being told that the CHP may be involved.... ugh.
