65,66,67 396 325HP air cleaner

I have an air cleaner that I removed from an Impala 20 years ago with 6423266 on the service instruction label. I don't remember if it was a 65, 66, or 67. Is this number listed in the assembly manual of any of these three years. Thanks.

That is probably the part number for the air filter. The cars didn't have body specific air cleaners for the most part (Z/28 cross ram, Chevelle Cold Air Inductions were exceptions not the rule).

Big Dave, Thanks for the reply.

The air cleaner is the same shape and size as my Chevelle 396 air cleaner but the air cleaner has a black top instead of chrome as on my Chevelle air cleaner. The tag also has the AC part number for the filter element. The part number I am interested in may be year specific and similar numbers are listed in my Chevelle assembly manual under RPO L35 as the air cleaner part number. I would appreciate it if anyone with a 65, 66, and 67 Impala assembly manual would post the part numbers for the L35 air cleaners listed in the RPO L35 section. Thanks.

Thanks Michael,
That number is listed in the L35 section of my 66 Chevelle assembly manual, but the UPC 6 page that lists the part number for the 66 SS396 (L35) aircleaner shows 6421312. We're trying to figure out why there are two numbers listed for apparently the same air cleaner.

Anybody have a 66 or 67 full size assembly manual?
Thanks.

sorry, i do not have a 66/67 manual. is it possible that there are two air cleaners for the 396-325 due to the pcv system? such as one with the breather in the valve cover and one with the tube in base of air cleaner? just a thought. doc

Hi doc
Yes, I know that is correct for the 66 and 67 Chevelle L35. There are actually 3 different air cleaners. One is the standard open PCV that has a breather in the passenger side valve cover. The second is for use with K24, closed PCV, that has a tube that goes from the valve cover to the air cleaner. The third is for K19 A.I.R., smog pump. This aircleaner uses two tubes to the air cleaner; one from the valve cover for the closed PCV, and a second to the smog pump. I would assume that these variations occur on the full-size Chevrolet L35 also (66 and 67). My interest is only in the standard 325HP air cleaner without K19 or K24, but it would be interesting to note the part numbers for those also. Thanks for the reply.

This is a discussion going on at Team Chevelle. Here is a link to that post.

ttt Can we get a few more responses form 66 and 67 full size owners with 325HP 396 engines? What is the part number on the service instruction label on the air cleaner and what does the Assembly Instruction Manual list as the part number? Thanks.

Here is the label on mine from my 66 caprice 396. Sorry it's a little blurry. That is 6421213 with regular pcv system and no air pump. There are no hose connections on the base.

Here is a picture of the base and top. Some moron cut the base to fit the Edelbrock carb. The base is hard to find and is pretty expensive when you do. I found one at a swap meet and the guy wanted $300 for it. I passed.

That's nice! Holley carbs are rare on a 325 h.p. aren't they? I put a date code correct holley casting intake on mine so I could put an Edelbrock 600 carb on. maybe down the road I will put a holley on it. Was the air cleaner base different for a Holley or same as the Q-jet?
