CA Black Plates

Can someone please help! So I went to the DMV today to have my 66 inspected by the DMV. I was able to get it registered with "title" only since I was not able to register my car with the black plates "the car came with". I had the original title of the car and clearly it had the black plates number on it. Now the DMV is asking that I come up with 1966 stickers!!!??? I cannot register the car with the black plates without the 1966 stickers. Where am I going to get this??? any ideas?

They're just the coolest plates EVER.

PS. It looks like you can even re-order these plates at http://www.black-plate.com

Old California plates were solid black before everyone started having murals and art work on a plate so that you can hardly read a plate any more; or even figure out what state it was issued in. Very frustrating for a cop to be asked what is the tag number and state for a records check and not to able to figure it out with out pulling the car over and reading it up close because they are so cluttered and have license plate frames covering the state.

I have the original CA black plates that came with my 65. They are embossed "63" in the top corner...

yah so were mine... just that effective July 1st of this year you cannot assign any black plates to any car with out the sticker of the "actual year" the car was made. In this case my 66 came with black plates but I don't have the 66 sticker... so I cannot assign my black plates to the car. My car has been out of the system since 83, so now I need to add it to the system...

You are able to buy the 66 sticker on e-bay. The sticker must have been taken off. I just replaced the plates on my 62. I had the new Calif. plates they had to go picked a pair on e-bay with the 62 sticker on it register them with the DMV. Got the OK to place them on two weeks later. I got the old style plate yellow and black back on the 62. If you need help let me know its not that difficult.

You can find the stickers on e-bay for the 66. Place them on the plates take them back to the DMV and they will register the car with the black plates. I just had a pair register to my 62 impala got the original yellow and black with a 62 sticker had them clear by the DMV and two weeks later I replaced them with the new Calif. plates. Makes the car look original people keept asking me about the plates I just had to change them.

Thanks Raymond, I did find some stickers on ebay... I noticed that some are "repro" stickers... do you know if those will work? They are much cheaper! Like 60 dollars cheaper.
