your are going to meat a tall dark stranger... NO that's not it

1965 the year of your car's manufacture (hopefully no surprise there.
16439 this is your style of car which is an Impala V8 four door sport sedan.
ATL tells me you could be a Braves fan, or a Hawks fan or maybe a Falcons fan because your car was made in Atlanta Georgia and they don't tend to wander too far from their origins.
23036 is the sequence number of your car from the Fisher Body plant in Atalanta. It starts at every plant every year over again.

842 is the color of your interior which was a blue cloth and vinyl bench seat
DC is your paint code which was an Ermine White over Mist Blue exterior paint color combination.
W tells me you have a tinted windshield, but plain glass every where else (unusual with A/C that usually had all glass tinted).
O tells me that your car has a two tone paint job (It's like deja vu all over again)
2 is for the next set of options (they never print out option group number 1 for some reason)
K is for air conditioning and
S is for the rear antenna option (as opposed to only one on the front fender.)

3 (is for the third of five option groups group option: which generally is typed out)
L is for rally sport which I assume means 14x6 inch Kelsey-Hayes Rally wheels with trim rings and hats.

Thanks for the info Big Dave! I actually bought the car from the original owners here in Maine, but I know this was their Florida car for 20+ years (they were snow birds). They must of bought it while they were down there. It's neat to see the oddity with the AC and only front tint. The rear antenna however I was never fond of. I'm not sure if the L code is right though because I thought I had the orginal plain Jane wheel covers.

Trim Tag

The top left 06C us the build date of 3rd week of June 1965
The "L" is currently unknown for the 65 model. It appears in group 5 and as a stand alone also. There is no Rally sport option and no wheels in 65, the L in 1967 may be Rally Sport but not in 65.

I referenced Mark S. Allen's Chevy Cowl Tag Book: 1960-1975. It lists an L Rally Sport as a group three option. It also lists an L in group four and five designating it as a 1965 only option; but doesn't describe what the option actually is. If any one knows for sure let me know, and I will annotate my book (a medieval concept lost on the younger generations who only high light their college text books now).

I can't think of any extra options the car might have. It only has a driver side mirror, would the L be for left?

I have no idea how option codes where assigned by Fisher Body back then. They used five groups of about ten letters each (average was 11.2) to list the options installed above base in the car line.
