There are other numbers on the back of the block that include the block part number and the block casting date. The tranny dates depend on the type, powerglide is on the pan and manual is on the case. Lots of others you could look for such as rear end, intake, heads, alternator, distributor, etc if you want to. If you are interested I would suggest getting Alan Colvins "Chevrolet by the Numbers" for the early 60's chevrolets. It is a great resource for all these questions, it shows where to look and what they mean. There is nowhere on the web that all this information is summarized very well. You can find bits and pieces on line but spend the $25 and enjoy the "hunt".
