64 Impala SS 972-1 Paint Code

I just joined and posted on the new members section, but asking the same question here: What is Paint code 972-1? My 62K mile convertible has the original red paint which I believe to be Ember (922), but all I can find for 972 is Adobe Beige/Cordovan Brown as a two tone color. Is this possibily a mis-stamp on the tag??!. Thanks for any insight in to this.

I don't show a 972 for 1964 which is Artic or Polar White in most later model cars.

I came up with the same results, although one source shows 972 for two tone Adobe Beige & Cordovon Brown. Here's my tag:

Could be a typo as they were typed by steno girls by hand copying paper build sheet info.

The -1 is to show white top. It is strange they shows it on both the trim and paint codes but that's the way Arlington did it in 64. You don't seen many Arlington Convertibles!

Thanks Warren! I thought the -1 probably was the white top also. Your thoughts on the 972? Typo? Code for Ember Red with white top? Thanksfor the reply!

Yeah, 972 must be a typo.

Do you have any original documentation from the car that would show the paint code like the window sticker or build sheet?

I haven't found the build sheet or window sticker in the car, although it came with a lot of other documentation. It has some neat stuff like a copy of the original Texas title, original owner's manual, tire info, the factory am/fm radio guide, convertible top guide, Owner Protection Plan booklet, and a well used " Chevrolet Custom Features Accessories for 1964 Confidential Price Schedule" somehow acquired from the dealer I suppose.

Hopefully I'll run across the build sheet in some of the usual places, but I'm not going to tear it apart looking for it when it most likely isn't there anyway.
