Lost vin tag

I purchased a really nice 61 Bubbletop. Has documentation for the privious owner. He had is completly acid dipped and opoxy primed. All panels floors doors and quarters are original with no rust at all.

Here's lies the problem. He can't find the VIN tag. I would like to make sure the car VIN matches the title. Where are the hidden VIN's.

I woulds like to verify this before we finalize the deal.

Thanks.

Tom

I don't think the 61's had a hidden VIN on the car body itself. Most of the X-frames were stamped with the partial VIN on the top of the frame in different locations depending on the year. This frame stamp will be tough to see unless the body is off of the frame.

If he can't find the VIN I would not buy it untill he gets the state to approve and re-assign a new VIN to the car and frame. You don't want to have to do this part. Now that the VIN is gone you are going to have to get a new one issued anyway.

Old Chinese proverb: No Tickee, No Launly.

Pass until it is titled. Ever wonder if it is such a great deal why he is unloading it as great deal?

I talked to the state and they said if I can't find the Vin, they could do a bonded title. NO WAY. For the money Im paying for this car I want a clear title. I don't understand why people are dumb enough to remove and misplace their Vins. I don't car how nice this is. I will pass if he can't prove the VIN.

I once did a 67 RS/SS I took the tags off. They were almost falling off anyway. I placed the tags in the safe with the title card.

I would never buy a car I planned to drive or restore that had the VIN tag tampered with or removed.
