You can not determine the original selling dealer from your VIN or Trim tag information. But there are some clues on where your car was built and sold on your trim tag.

Your trim tage decode is:

05B = assembly date is 2nd week of may (1966)
16837 = Impala SS 2 door hardtop
BC = Assembled at Southgate, CA plant
14832 = build sequence number
TR 837 = Blue interior
DD Paint = Mist Blue exterior
With Factory Air Conditioning

Engine F0426HF decodes to a 1966 327/275 HP with a powerglide and A.I.R assembled on April 26th 1966. This engine assembly date fits well with your car assembly date so it most likely is the original engine.
The A.I.R refers to Air Injection Reactor which was required for all cars sold in California so your car probably was orginally sold in California.

Trim Tag and Cowl Tag are the same thing. The dealer is usually stamped in the back of the orginal owners manual. At least mine was.

my 66 ss has a 10 bolt rear end with a two speed pg, so to answer your question about posi rear ends, i would have to say no. from everything i have read about the 66 ss, it was essentually a fancy trim package. beefed up engines and rear ends would have had to have been ordered........................................... .i think

It was an air pump that forced fresh air into the exhaust manifolds to reduce the smog in Californias central valey. All cars evenbtually got an air pump as the emission laws got tighter; and still have them though in addition to injecting air into the manifolds they also pump air into the catalytic converters now.
