Steve your Trim Tag decodes as follows.

5 =====> Fifth Month,
C =====> Third Week of,
62 ====> 1962 the year it was made. Which is your date code.
1847 ===> tells you that you are the proud owner of a two door Impala sport coupe (Hard Top).
JA ====> made at the Janesville, WI assembly plant.
27523 ==> is the Fisher Body Sequence number assigned to this build (has nothing to do with the VIN).
842 ===> It left the factory with a blue clot bench seat.
912 ===> is the paint code that says it was originally Silver Blue (light blue metallic)
First option code group
E ====> Tinted Glass
Z ====> Unknown (not in any of my books)
W ====> Tinted Windshield Only

Thanks Dave where did you get that info? Is there a website? I'd like to decode my other car too.

I have books that show trim tag, casting numbers, Protect-O-Plates and VIN info. Best ones I have found if you are worried about restoring one with the correct parts is "Chevrolet by the Numbers" by Alan Colvin.

Colvins books are very good.
You can also take a look at this site for 58-64's
Trim and paint codes, etc

This shows that EZW for '60 was all one code for tinted windshield. Later they used single digit codes.
