64 Impala VIN location

I have a 64 Impala that the VIN tag is missing from the door post. The original motor is not in the car. I don't have the build sheet or a title. Is there another location on the car that I can find the VIN number? Thanks

It is also on the top of the frame drivers side in 2 places 1 is close to the trans crossmember area the other is near the trunk area here is a link http://rides.webshots.com/album/5566...vxOqU?start=24 hope that helps I think you will need a mirror and jack the body up above the frame.

Glad to help. Good luck the front one has a floor brace running beside the frame the rear one might be easier to see.

location

I am debating on buying a 1964 Impala from this youngster and I don't want to get burned. My question is, besides the # on the door post, where else would I find vin numbers so I know I'm not buying a plated car. I've heard of people spending a lot on money on a classic only to find out it was plated with numbers from a junk car. Thanks

The only other place I know of other than the vin on the door post is on the frame. With that said the vin was spot weld on but with the new glues it could be hard to detect. If you are look for a 64 Impala SS the side trim is in adifferent location then a 64 Impala so look to see if the old holes have been filled in. I would join a car club and have someone who knows the type of car you are looking for look at it. Do your reserch and ask question on here and other places. I know alot about the cars I own but not as much about other years I don't own.

Over the weekend I was able to find the VIN number stamped in the top of the frame between the rear wheel and the back bumper. I ended up removing 3 body mount bolts on the driver side and lifting up the body about an inch. After considerable cleaning, a mirror and a light I was able to read the numbers. Lawrence, thanks for the help. Those pictures were a big help. Dan
