61 Front steering component layout. 605 Gearbox

Building my 61 and using a power 605 gearbbox from CPP. I have looked all over to find a picture layout of the steering components. My car didnt have the steering in it otherwise i would have a picture.

From stock to 605 is there any difference in the components? Any help would be appreciated.....

Thanks
Tom

Yes there are differences.

Your system is exactly the same as that used on the 1963-1982 Corvette (a source for replacement parts if they don't list your big Chevy).

You can see pictures in the Assembly manual and in the Service manual as well as in the Chassis Service manual all of which are sold as scanned images on a CD. You can buy each of these manuals as a CD for about $20 each from many sources on the web.

You will need to reinforce the frame area where the 605 steering gear box bolts up. You might have to remove the steering ram mounting point that is currently attached to the frame to gain clearance for the tie rod ends and the Pitman Arm to move. The Idler Arm can probably be reused and another Tie Rod end that connects to it can probably used to connect the Pitman Arm to the Tie Rod.

Others who have performed this update already may have photographs that they can share with you. I know at least three members of this board have upgraded their cars and where very happy with the results.
