Original power steering setup in a 59

Looks like there are lots of options to upgrade your manual steering to power after reading some threads here. I have a 59 Biscayne 2 door with stock manual steering I am working on right now and would like to convert it to power steering. I have a donor 59 Impala 4 door with factory power steering in it. Is it much of a job or even possible to take the parts from the donor car and install them in the Biscayne or is easier to just buy the new power steering conversion kits. Just thought I could save some money by putting a new seal kit in the ps cylinder and see if its a good option or not. Has anyone done either of these jobs and what are some good products you could suggest if you have done it. Thanks in advance.

I like Factory Power Steering, but I guess it depends on how you are building the car and what you will be using it for.

In '59, the PS set-up still had the Pump on the back of the Generator. It is an easy swap though if you stay with the original.

Take note though, if you change to an aftermarket, research it good first as many have experienced problems with them. The problems are also known to sometimes "snowball" with one fix leading to another one needing fixing.

In addition to rebuilding the power steering (parts are available on Corvette restoration sites as they used the same power steering parts up until 1983) you will have to weld the mounting brackets onto your project car after carefully cutting them off of your donor car. Since both the two door and the four door car share the same 119 inch wheel base frame it would probably be easier to swap the full frame out from under the donor car giving you a chance to rebuild everything while parts are easy to get to.
