how to steering column firewall seal

Hello all. I have a 61 that I have run into a stumbling block with in regards to installing the steering column to firewall seal I can't imagine the seal being stretched over the column and shift rods,it's not going to happen. It appears the column tube with the shift arm has to come out of the column. Does anyone know of detailed instructions on have to disassemble the column. I have the assembly manual for the car which shows the exploded view of the column. I'm not sure about what needs to come apart though. Thanks

Sorry I deleted that post as you are allowed to have only on topic per post open at any one time (rules established by the owner of the board not me).

Theoretically this is to aid those searching our archives of old posts to aid them in finding an answer to their questions. That line of reasoning is defeated by people who change the subject in an old post to ask another question rather than take a second to open a new topic.

In this regard the answer to your question of installing the column moisture seal has probably already fully answered with pictures and part numbers with links to vendors (I made that part up, do not go looking for it or expect to find it), but it is buried in a post about tire size. I can't close, or deleted those posts or we wouldn't have a board to read. But you hopefully see the reason for the deletion.
