B-car Rear Steer vs Front Steer
I know that the 1965 Impala was the first Chevrolet B-car with a Saginaw, integral, recirculating ball, power steering gear. The gear was rear mounted next to the firewall and connected directly to a short steering column shaft.
Later, I think that the gear was moved forward in the car and a seperate intermediate steering shaft was needed to reach from the end of the steering column out to the forward mounted gear.
Can you indicate what model year the gear was moved forward on the Chevrolet B-car and an intermediate steering shaft was needed?
So just a point of information, FRONT STEER and REAR STEER designations are not necessarily where the steering gear is located. It is whether the steering linkage connects to the knuckles in FRONT or BEHIND the front wheel centerlines.
